Dr. Grace Eang
Dr. Grace grew up in Edmonton, Alberta – Canada’s gateway to the Rocky Mountains and home to some of hockey’s most passionate fans. Growing up in a city that bleeds Oilers orange and blue, Dr. Grace developed a love for the sport that she carries with her to this day. And while her career path eventually brought her thousands of miles south to Minnesota, she did not leave her love of the game at the border.
What brought her to the Land of 10,000 Lakes? A small-town Minnesotan who stole her heart. She has since embraced her adopted home state fully – and the Minnesota Nice culture has made the Twin Cities feel like home. She has also made it her personal mission to explore every corner of the Twin Cities restaurant scene.
“I’d love to talk hockey or swap favorites from the Twin Cities restaurant scene,” she says.
One thing Dr. Grace brought with her from Edmonton is a decade-long devotion to hot yoga. She has been practicing for more than ten years, and the mat is her go-to place to reset.
“It’s my favorite de-stressor and a great mental and physical challenge,” she says.
The discipline and focus required to hold a pose in a 105-degree room turns out to be excellent preparation for the precision of orthodontic work. Both require steadiness, patience, and a belief that the results are worth the process – and a natural eye for the details that make all the difference.
When she is not in the practice or on the mat, you will find Dr. Grace on a slow morning with a book and a cup of coffee, hiking with her husband and their two dogs, or discovering the newest restaurant to buzz about in the Twin Cities. She will likely end the night cozied up by a fire playing crib.
Dr. Grace’s connection to orthodontics runs deep and personal. Her own orthodontist played a defining role in her life, not just in giving her a straighter smile, but in helping her overcome the anxiety of sitting in the dental chair.
“He helped me overcome my nerves about getting in the dental chair and ultimately made me feel more confident in my smile,” she says. “I’m excited to get to pay that forward.”
That desire to transform not just teeth, but confidence and the dental experience itself, is what drives Dr. Grace every day at Camp Smile.
More about Dr. Grace
What superpower do you wish you had?
I wish I could control time so I could rewind to my favorite memories with my friends and family or pause time when I have a long to-do list.
What is one of your actual superpowers (something that makes you special and unique)?
I would say my superpower is my attention to detail. I naturally notice the little things and love to use that to help people feel comfortable and cared for.
If you had a free day to do anything, how would you spend it?
My perfect day would be a slow morning with coffee and a book to start the day. Then I’d go for a hike with my husband and our two dogs, followed by trying out a new restaurant for dinner. I’d end the day cozied up by a fire playing crib.
What is your favorite snack?
Poutine – a Canadian staple!
Why do you love your job?
I love the transformative nature of orthodontics and getting to connect with people. My orthodontist as a kid had a huge impact on me. He helped me overcome my nerves about getting in the dental chair and ultimately made me feel more confident in my smile. I’m excited to get to pay that forward.
Favorite fluoride flavor?
Bubblegum – to satisfy my sweet tooth!
What is your favorite cartoon or animated movie?
I loved watching Looney Tunes on Saturday mornings with my Mom growing up, but movie wise it’s a tie between Mulan and Peter Pan.
