Preventive

Infant Exam

While babies do not have many teeth, it is important they see a dentist within six months of the first tooth coming into the mouth or by their first birthday. As a parent, you want to ensure your child’s teeth and gums are healthy and developing properly. By establishing a dental home at an early age, you will assist your child in developing good dental habits and will build a solid foundation for a positive dental outlook throughout life.

As pediatric dentists, we are the “pediatricians of the mouth” and have received at least two years of additional training to provide specialized care for each child. At Camp Smile Pediatric Dentistry, we are happy to offer a complimentary infant exam for children 18 months and under. Our office is committed to doing all that we can to educate parents on dental health and familiarize your child with the dentist’s office.

You can always expect quality care and customized recommendations and treatment designed as though we were caring for own family.

Pediatric Dentistry

“Why should my child see a pediatric dentist?” Pediatric dentists may be described as the “pediatricians of the oral cavity.” Pediatric dentists have received at least two to three additional years of residency education following dental school and are trained in managing medically complex patients and children and adults with special health care needs (SHCN).

Radiographs (X-Rays)

Radiographs (x-rays) enable our team to assess development of your child’s dentition and check for any missing, extra, or poorly positioned teeth. Additionally, we are able to monitor timing of orthodontic therapy and check for the development of third molars (wisdom teeth).

Sealants

Around the time your child loses his or her first tooth, you may notice four additional “adult teeth” growing into the back of the mouth. These teeth—the permanent first molars (six-year molars)—are among the most susceptible to cavities because they possess deep grooves and crevices and come into the mouth when children often express heightened interest in brushing their own teeth without the help of their parents.

Sports Dentistry

Childhood and adolescence provide ample opportunities to take advantage of organized sports and other activities that encourage healthy and active lifestyles. Involvement in sports, however, always presents a risk for injury, including injuries to the mouth. In fact, among less professional athletes, there is an increased risk and higher prevalence of orofacial injuries. In addition to organized sports such as baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, and lacrosse, the bicycle has been responsible for an extensive proportion of sports-related dental injuries in children.

With few contraindications, laughing gas is a form of mild sedation that particularly aids in helping our patients with even the most sensitive gag reflexes feel at ease.

Tooth Extractions

There are multiple situations in which dental extractions (tooth extraction or removal) may be indicated. Some examples include decayed teeth that cannot be restored, abscessed teeth contributing to infection and pain, and primary and/or permanent teeth that must be removed for orthodontic purposes. In some situations, a space maintainer may be indicated to prevent space closure and to save room for permanent teeth.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics

Many times if a malocclusion or crooked teeth are caught early enough, there are several guiding procedures that can be done to minimize your child’s need for braces. This may include treatments such as disking, space maintainers, retainers, and partial braces. If braces are still required, we are pleased to assist your child in creating a beautiful, healthy, esthetic smile with comprehensive orthodontics.
