When Leah was ten years old, she entered an acrylic landscape painting into a 4-H contest.

“I won a blue ribbon,” she says, “at that point I thought, ‘I’m an artist!’ “

Her interest in art started far earlier though, even before pre-school. She enjoys all types of arts, from paintings to sketches and drawings.

During the COVID-19 quarantine, Leah stayed plenty busy, sketching and painting from her kitchen table. She works on art daily, sometimes even on napkins. One of her sisters took a picture of the moon over the lake behind their parents’ home, so Leah painted that picture and gifted it to her sister for Christmas.

Though she enjoys working on landscape images, Leah has begun to sketch people and dogs; sometimes, she’ll draw with her opposite hand in different positions. “I have a significant amount of time to work on my art,” she says, “and it’s keeping me busy and happy.”

More about Leah

What superpower do you wish you had?

I really wish I had another set of arms. If I had an extra arm or two, my life would be a lot easier. I would also love to be able to teleport anywhere at anytime.

If you had a free day to do anything, how would you spend it?

I would start with brunch, then some yoga or a walk with friends, and some shopping. I like spending my evenings outside by a fire with friends and family  making S’mores.

What is your favorite snack?

Trail mix or fruit.

Why do you love your job?

Working with kids is so rewarding! I love when we work together as a team to get the job done. It’s fun to hear the stories kids tell!

Mint. I love the freshness.
